hi Alex
Looking forward to having a proper chippie in west didsbury!
when are you guys opening?
Cheers
Charlie
My husband has just brought your fish and chips through the door. We’ve been waiting for some time for you to open and I am pleased to say we were not disappointed. The fish was well cooked without being over cooked. The chips were hot, chunky and moist without being greasy. The mushy peas are fantastic too. Keep it up and you’ll do a storm. It’s just what we need on Burton Road.
See you again… SOON!

Just had a take-away from Frankies and I have to say it was the best ‘chippy’ that I have had in a VERY long time! Excellent customer service and top quality food! Well worth a visit!!
Just have to say that the fish and chips were wonderful! Freshly cooked, tasted great and loved the homemade tartare sauce! Spread the word!
I am so excited about Frankies Fish Bar, it’s about time West Didsbury had a quality chip shop. I now cannot wait to go back to the fish and chip dinner I used to have every Friday evening when I was a kid.
As a boy from the coast I have always been disappointed with Manchester’s chippys.
I must say that my first impressions are very good. Good fish, good batter and good chips, a recipe for success!
Please, please, please keep it up! (Though if you do, I fear for my waistline!)
I have eaten many fish and chips and yours are probably the best I’ve had!!! Thank you – just what I’ve been wishing for
After a very busy week we want to say thanks for all the great comments! we really are so pleased you enjoyed the experience, it honestly is fantastic to see and hear and we look forward to seeing you all again soon! best wishes the Frankies Team.
Just had a family meal with children and grandchildren. What an experience! Food cooked to perfection washed down with a bottle of champagne (adults only!) A wonderful atmosphere and the children were given Frankies colouring sheets to do between courses. Will recommend it to everyone.
Well done guys, it sounds from all accounts that you’ve had a cracking first week. Keep up the good work and i wish you all the best for the future.
Regards
The Prestons
Im off to try it out on fri! very please west dids got a chippy and from reading the reviews cant wait!
i have just been to Frankies Fish Bar, the fish was incredible, and the chips were nice and chunky and NO GREASE! The homemade tartar sauce is the best i have had. i will be returning very soon. Excellent Customer Service.

I share a long strong interest in food with a very old friend in California, in an area of the same age and style as West Didsbury – in November we had fun chasing the best tamales in Sacramento, which is the foodiest city I have ever spent time in. We talked about how downright cheap well-made food can be some of the very very best.
Tamales are a s*d to make, but that’s why families get together to make them. Another friend for more than forty years told me how her family has shared that way of doing things. Pretty much how your family’s understanding seems to have passed down. My point is that good food does not just come out of freezers ( I have nothing against freezers) to be merely microwaved, (nor anything against them), but it has to be made with care and knowledge. And I don’t mean just Granny’s recipes from a book.
This is part of what I sent her about Frankie’s after two visits – and the rest isn’t bad either.
“The fish is immaculately cooked, the timing and batter just right, the quality of the fish itself excellent. The chips are a very long way above par. Even slightly better on the second visit – a bit of fine-tuning. I have not tasted either done so well in many a year, and that includes restaurants with very much higher claims. And prices.”
I had thought of buying a deep fryer, just to taste the good stuff. I held off because I saw you were opening. Forget it.
My only regret is that you don’t use dripping. Probably illegal in California. Say the very word and you might get deported.
Despite the lack of dripping, (for which I’d have to go to some hallowed shrine in Yorkshire, but going over there is pretty unreasonable in itself), you have every right to the fans I know you are getting.
A champion job, as my Grandad would have said.

Love the chunky Tartare Sauce!
The decor is amazing!!! Best designed chip shop I have seen in a long time. Especially the tables they look handmade, which gives a rustic feel to the place!! Food not bad too, good to have a chippy on Burton Road finally. Will be coming again soon.
What a great chip shop, just what Burton Road needed. Food is great, nice chips!!
Warm friendly place. Love the wood features, gives it a traditional feel!
I have not even been here yet but i think the concept of a West Didsbury chippy is magnificent. The idea of matching the fish and chips with selected ales and wines is superb. This area has been crying out for a half decent chippy. Hope you succeed in all your endeavours.
Totally loving Frankie’s Fish Bar! Great Chips, fab fish cakes and obviously mushy peas!!!
Told all my friends to go there – I really should be on commision.
Thanks all for your great comments means allot to us all here at Frankies! hope to see you all again soon. (sorry no commission just yet Nicola but perhaps a few chips are in order!!) Alex
I have been twice in two weeks. This place has changed my Friday night dining!
If you want the best Fish and Chip in the South Manchester, visit Alex and Chris’ at Frankies Fish Bar, it has the big Thumbs up from Frankie himself from his visit at weekend, a chip off the old block. He gives five stars food and service as well.
Well done Alex and Chris.

Superb fish, chips and mushy peas, the tartar sauce was the finishing touch that made eating in at Frankies Fish Bar a great fun evening. Took me back to my childhood when traditional British fish and chips was the highlight of the week!! Well done, great service, happy friendly team. Will be back soon.
I wrote a review on my blog – http://greedyfoodie.com/2010/02/frankie-s-fish-bar
About time Burton road had a decent chippy!
well…. if some one asked me where the hot spot on a friday night in didsbury would be 6 months ago i would never of said a chippy! however i was in frankies fish bar this friday night and what i hive of activity! the food was outstanding (and i mean very fresh and cooked to perfection), staff lovely and friendly, to top it all off i can safely say that it was the best fish and chip experience i have had in a very long time!! keep it up and i will see you again soon, next time i’ll have it to eat in! D.

Best fish and chips around! Service is second to none as well, well done!
Hello, do you cook any gluten free fish? i.e with gluten free batter or just grilled fish?
Many thanks
Amazing fish and chips! Such a treat.I am worried for my waistline…
I am so glad you are open 7 days a week now- nothing worse than thinking about fish and chips all day to go pick some up and find the chippy is shut!
Never really been a fan of fish and chips, but this place is just brilliant! Really nice and friendly atmosphere and the food is really nice, highly recommend the Tartar sauce, something i never liked but i can’t enough of there homemade stuff it’s really tasty and different.
Been twice since it’s opened and we will be back to treat ourselves again soon, thanks guys.
You have done it again! Amazing read.
Popped in during the week : Coke from a traditional iced bottle (good fizz) : well chilled white wine : light tempura-style batter over moist, flaky, fresh cod, drained and over golden chunky chips, with just the right of crispy edge : robust homemade caper tartar sauce and a pot of rich, mushy peas : topped off with a classic espresso : pleasant, attentive service. . . absolutely fantastic!
